Neuropathy Treatment

Why We Are Different

The fundamental difference between our treatment and conventional medical treatment is that conventional medicine merely masks your pain; whereas, our treatment approach at the San Antonio Neuropathy Center is focused on identifying the underlying cause of your neuropathy and correcting the problem.

If you simply mask the pain with medications, rest assured, your neuropathy will get progressively worse with each passing year. As your neuropathy progresses, it can become very debilitating as you begin to lose your balance, strength, and normal sensory perception.

Nuphoria Nerve Treatment

The San Antonio Neuropathy Center has developed a proprietary treatment protocol to reverse nerve damage known as Nuphoria Nerve Treatment. The treatment protocol has been developed after years of research and 15 years of clinical application successfully reversing neuropathy for literally thousands of patients.

Although treatment is customized for each individual based on your particular medical history and findings, there are fundamental treatments that are necessary for nerve repair including the following:

Low Level Laser Treatment

“A research study conducted by Harvard Medical School reported that patients suffering with long term peripheral nerve injury showed progressive improvement in nerve motor function with the use of Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) leading to significant functional recovery.”

There are many different forms of near infrared lasers (NIR) on the market.

The pricing on NIR lasers can vary significantly from $100 up to $20,000 dollars. Before you run out and purchase a hundred dollar NIR laser, it’s important to realize that not all NIR’s have the same ability to repair a damaged peripheral nerve; therefore, it’s important to be familiar with the therapeutic benefits and differences of infrared lasers.

In order to elicit nerve repair in peripheral nerves, the infrared light wavelength must be between 800 nm – 1100 nm. This range of wavelength allows for penetration of 4-6 inches deep within the tissue. Medical evidence shows that NIR triggers Nitric Oxide (NO) release, found to be extremely beneficial for neuropathy sufferers.

The vast majority of lasers owned by doctors operate between the wavelengths of 600 nm – 780nm. The problem with this wavelength of NIR is that it will only penetrate approximately 1/8 inch deep in the body, which isn’t deep enough to affect a peripheral nerve. These lasers are more popular in the medical community because they are less expensive. Although this wavelength of NIR laser does have some therapeutic benefits, it is ineffective in repairing and regenerating damaged peripheral nerves.

Benefits of Nitric Oxide (NO)

  • Increases blood flow to injured or damaged nerves.
  • Increases circulation, oxygen and nutrient delivery to nerves
  • Stimulates proper nerve transmission
  • Decreases pain by stimulating endorphin production
  • Decreases muscle spasm
  • Stimulates cellular reproduction
  • Stimulates the production of collagen
  • Increases lymphatic system activity

Oxygen Therapy

“Chronic Hypoxia is a well known cause of peripheral neuropathy”
The most renown scientific minds are becoming increasingly concerned that our human bodies are not getting anywhere near the levels of oxygen needed for optimum health, immune system function, nervous system function and disease prevention. Stephen Levine, M.D., a respected molecular biologist and geneticist, printed this provocative and accurate statement in his book: “Oxygen Deficiency: Concomitant to All Degenerative Illness”.

Role of Oxygen in Nerve Impulses

All nerve cells, including peripheral nerves, require oxygen to transmit messages throughout the body. This method of delivering messages is called nerve firing. In order for nerves to fire, they must have a source of energy (much like your car needing gas in order to start), called ATP. Think of ATP as gasoline for the nerve cells. In order to get gas into your car, it must be pumped through a hose or a conduit. The conduit for delivering ATP (energy) to nerve cells are oxygen molecules.

When your body is deficient in oxygen, it can prevent your peripheral nerves from firing. As the peripheral nerves continue to be starved of oxygen, the nerves will become damaged and eventually die (without intervention). The medical term for lack of oxygen in any tissue is Hypoxia or Hypoxemia (low blood oxygen). Dr. Levine states, “Hypoxia, or lack of oxygen in the tissues, is the fundamental cause for all degenerative disease.”

NUPHORIA cm Gold & Blue

Unsatisfied with conventional treatment, Dr. Monteiro and Dr. Coppola, embarked on a journey to uncover the causes of peripheral neuropathy and effective treatments for this condition. Their research ultimately led them to write a book on the topic, “Defeat Neuropathy Now … In Spite of Your Doctor”. During the course of their research, they came across many clinical studies which revealed that specific nutrients, when administered in the proper dosage– along with synergistic co-enzymes, vitamins and minerals- had a powerful effect on healing the nerve damage associated with peripheral neuropathy.

Initially, the doctors had to prescribe 4 or 5 different bottles of supplements to patients, in order to get the right therapeutic blend of nutrients. Although the results were very positive, the cost was prohibitive for some and compliancy was an issue for those who didn’t like to take multiple pills every day. This led them to develop their own neuropathy formulation, combining the perfect synergistic blend of nutrients- in one bottle- at a fraction of the cost, and with minimal pills to take each day. This formulation was named Nuphoria. The results from Nuphoria have been so astounding that it became the foundation for all patients being treated for peripheral neuropathy at the San Antonio Neuropathy Center.

Nervous System Reboot

Unfortunately, it’s not enough to simply repair a damaged or injured nerve. Scientists have discovered that over time, certain nerve pathways become ‘burned in’, so that when the brain encounters a certain stimulus, it will react by firing the same way it did the last time it encountered that stimulus. For instance, once you learn to ride a bike, every time you climb on it, the nerves fire the same way so that you can pedal, balance and steer.

It’s common for peripheral nerves, once healed, to continue sending jumbled up messages, merely out of habit.  As a result, the peripheral neuropathy sufferer may no longer have pain but may still lack balance and coordination, making them susceptible to falls. So, the final stage to healing the peripheral nerve is restoring proper communication pathways between the brain and the nerves of the feet or hands. This is imperative in order to return a person back to normal function.

If your computer gets ‘locked up’ or ‘frozen’ you must shut it down and then restart it or …Reboot.  This clears the old pathway that was ‘stuck’ or dysfunctional and allows it to restore the appropriate pathways of communication. With our nervous system Reboot, we rehabilitate the patient’s Nervous System and restore the proper pathways by using a set of techniques called Quantum Sensory Techniques (QST). This ensures the formation of new healthy nerve pathways that function appropriately for the action.
